Newcastle Past and Present is one of a series of books by Geoff Phillips. The author's late father, Jack Phillips, had an extensive collection of photographs dating back as far as the 1840s.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Jack's collection was the pairing of old and new photographs, where he had replicated the camera angles to show how the city had changed over the years.
In the 1990s, Geoff embarked on the same exercise, once again duplicating the viewpoints and camera positions as far as possible.
